Hi, the patch its self is fairly OK. In the context of OBJ which is already splitting up data...

However you *might* want to split by face islands... or isolate smooth groups. And having each importer implement their own splitting is redundant.

I wonder if it would be better to have a general operator which scripts can call as a post-process, that splits by arbitrary attributes (in object mode). So all importers can implement this, without having to write own splitting code.

@Bastien Montagne (mont29), what do do you think?
