Add support for opening Blender backup .blend files (.blend1, .blend2, etc) by dropping them into the window, just like regular .blend files.

Thanks for this feature but please add a warning to the popup.
I thought the lack of support was by design and I kind of approved it. At least I think it's less dangerous than what this video shows.
On Linux (and probably Windows too) there is no way to have Blender's backup files hidden in your file browser, and Blender doesn't let you customize their extension to make that possible or simply include a character that hides the file by default. On Linux either a dot . at the start or a tilde ~ at the end of the name will make the file hidden in most file browsers, which btw is what other programs like Krita do with their backup files.
Because of that I sometimes surprise myself unintentionally dragging a backup file when I want to drag the latest save. Fortunately Blender hasn't let me do that so far. If it does without a warning I'm in for some trouble and I may not be the only one.
