The AutoMerge Editing option is hard to find, especially to those who are not used to the new topbar. I reckon it would help to have it appear in the Snapping popover as a subsection with its Double Threshold, since this option is mostly used with snapping enabled.

On the other hand, it's not strictly related to snapping, it also merges without. CC-ing the rest of the UI team about this, personally I don't mind leaving it where it is. If we do this, then the setting should show also for snapping modes other than VERTEX, and show the threshold value as well. Comment Actions Oof... Who the heck put it there? Neither I nor the other people I asked could find it anywhere. I still think my proposal is valid as a way to add an easier place to find it. I really think this option belongs in the Snapping panel because it's mostly used when you turn on vertex snapping. Leave the detailed options in that Mesh Options menu but also have a clearer way to turn it on where people can actually find it. PS "Double Threshold" in Mesh Options is missing the "D". Edit: Should have refreshed the page before commenting... Edit 2: Weird bug. The thing about the "D" missing, for some reason it disappears sometimes depending on the interface scale. So instead of using ellipsis, it just cuts a character from the left. Comment Actions Try as I might I can't get Double Threshold to show up in the Snapping popover. I don't really understand how the UI works internally. I think this positioning works well enough (assuming Double Threshold will be right after AutoMerge Editing).  Comment Actions Hmm, it's a bit of a tricky issue I think. Currently, Auto-Merge also works without Snapping enabled. If you use Vertex Slide to slide one vert to another, it merges, or if you scale several vertices to zero, they also get merged, even if Snapping is off. So I think it would be fairly misleading to put it into the snapping popover. Users would then not expect that it would be enabled if snapping is off. It's a bit annoying from UI standpoint because Auto-Merge has no obvious home. Options:
Comment Actions I like the idea, its really annoying to reach the editing options, but what about X-Mirror? those were together for a while, they will miss each other... why not put them on their private popup menu along with all other object editing options? |
