T71036: 2.81 Crashes when separating the mesh to lose parts in Object mode

Summary

caused by recent rB71538eaad66b

Looks like we can use the old BMesh already available (no need to go
through mesh->edit_mesh->bm), otherwise we would need a NULL check (no
edit_mesh in objectmode)
