Summary

I mainly tried to mimic the details of the cloth brush icon while using the frame style
extablished for the other "filter" tools. It's possible the details are a bit small, I
could make them a bit larger.

I think the icon suffers from readability when reduced. At the very least I would not let the little white detail of the frame to show under the cloth (what does it mean even? the cloth is ripped in two?). I asked @Pablo Vazquez (pablovazquez) to leave his 2 cents too, since he is more of a designer than I am :)

Nice take! I think it's great just a couple notes:

  1. If the cloth were to lay 'on top' of the sphere, it'd follow the shape a bit more (it's mainly about the top-right gray dent):
  1. What Dalai mentioned, this tiny white square looks okay while big but in a smaller size it adds noise
  1. The left-side of the cloth ends abruptly at the frame of the white square, making a kind of imaginary line

To solve points 2 and 3, the cloth could come slightly more out of the frame, filling in the tiny white square and going over the white frame. Quick and crappy mockup:

  • Update icon based on feedback

I'm having trouble doing the export of my updated icon, no idea why though.. It looks like it combines my updates on top of the old icon.

Trying to figure out why, here's a screenshot from the icon sheet for now though:

Yeah, no idea how it still knows about the old version of the icon

  1. Remove all cloth_filter objects except those visible in the screenshot above
  2. Remove cloth_filter .dat icon from build directory
  3. make icons_geom
  4. make install
  5. Messed up icon!

I hope I'm missing something obvious!

Here's the icons_geom file. I wonder if other people have the same problem.

  • Correct export

@Pablo Vazquez (pablovazquez) Thanks for the comments! I especially agree about keeping it following
the shape of the sphere, it looks much better that way.

I tried to break up the line at the bottom of the cloth but I thought having it eat into
the gray sphere looked a little odd, so I didn't do that.

LGTM!

This icon-creation workflow needs some love indeed.
