Summary

The "File" menu currently uses a non-standard icon for "save" that is not used by another other application, and is therefore unrecognizable and unsuitable for such a use.

All of the current members of the UI team strongly favor a change from the current icon, and almost every single user preferred using a traditional "floppy" icon for this purpose. I can only think of one user that liked the current non-standard one. This patch replaces the current icon, created by Andrzej Ambroz (jendrzych) and replaces it by another one also created by the same artist.

The following compares what the save icon looks like now (on the left) with what it looks like after this patch (on the right):

This patch contains the changes to the SVG source file for all the icons: "blender_icons.svg". But to see this change (without needing to run "blender_icons_update.py"), you also must replace two icon "dat" files as well. The following zip file contains "icon16_file_tick.dat" for the "blender_icons16" folder, and "icon32_file_tick.dat" for "blender_icons32" folder, each in /release/datafiles.

The savior icon is back.
However how strange the mind is, I remember having participated in a passionate way in the discussion on the save icon, as a supporter of course ..
Now, that I got used to the new icon, mhe ... is kinda bho going back to the classic save icon gives me a feeling of old .. how strange the mind is.
hehehe

Although I'm in favour of the floppy icon, but when I tried it,
it turned out that this particular design did not fit with the others icon.

By the way, the folder icon too, as if from another set, although in itself it is very good.

Maybe it's just because I've gotten used to it, but I actually prefer the current save icon. The new one just seems too busy and blocky to me.
And I agree with @Yevgeny Makarov (jenkm) that it seems a bit out of place compared to the others, but I'm sure I'd get used to it.

There is also an alternative solution :)

There is also an alternative solution :)

That's a possibility, but then it would look bare compared with all the other menus. ;)
Still, it does look rather clean this way.

Yes, of course, I mean that all main menus of all editors can be without icons.
With the exception of (as one example) the Add Object menu.

There is one big benefit. Look at the "View" menu in the 3DView as an example.
There is a group of checkboxes and a group of decorative icons. They are very similar in nature.
So checkboxes (carrying status information) look like just decorative icons.
The Sequencer's "View" menu is an even more illustrative example.

Also the vast majority of menus in Blender do not contain icons.
Only the Topbar menu and some of the most basic ones, like View or File/Image.

But, Yes, I do not suggest just deleting all the icons at once, there will be a lot of noise, but do not add it in the future and gradually remove existing ones.

Removing all icons from menus would make things a little clearer, but I personally don't have any trouble distinguishing the icons from the checkboxes/radio buttons.
And I like icons.
