Summary

This patch will allow drag n drop materials to groups (to assign material to every group member) in the outliner.
(this is part of more work on the outliner, I've split this up in smaller pieces for review now...)

Let me know what you think...

Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) retitled this revision from to Outliner: DragDrop materials to groups (to assign material to every group member).
Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) updated this object.

This is a bit arbitrary, since an object has multiple material slots its a bit arbitrary what happens here, I can see why you might want this but think tools we have for linking materials do a reasonable job.

checked again and atm we have the following behaviour:

(1) CTRL+L > Materials:
assigns/overwrites the material to the first material slot

(2) drag n drop from/to the outliner:
create new material slot and assign to this

(3) drag n drop from the outliner to 3DView:
assigns/overwrites the material to the first material slot

would this have a chance if the patch-behaviour is changed to (1)/(3)? [and should we change (2) to make this consistent?]
If we are being consistent here [totally agree we should!] I struggle to see why dropping materials on group makes less sense than dropping them on single objects...
