broken: not a big fan...
[11:31pm] broken: reason being they don't seem significant enough
[11:31pm] broken: I'd like to eventually have things in there like
[11:31pm] broken: help, set keyframe, clear keyframe, set hotkey, etc etc
[11:32pm] ideasman_42: have you rejected?
[11:32pm] broken: I can't even remember
[11:32pm] ideasman_42: I dont think so
[11:32pm] ideasman_42: has braught up at patch review
[11:32pm] broken: and for things like setting it to 0, it doesn't seem like such a quick shortcut for it, having to click on it and than click on a menu entry
[11:32pm] ideasman_42: true
[11:32pm] broken: it's not much of an advantage to just clicking, delete, enter
[11:33pm] ideasman_42: color is some
[11:33pm] broken: perhaps better to have some shortcut like ctrl 0 while mouse is hovering
[11:33pm] ideasman_42: hrm, not very discoverable
[11:33pm] broken: no, but it's not exactly a basic function
[11:33pm] ideasman_42: broken, a menu with key shortcurts wuod be nice
[11:33pm] broken: it's something supplemental
[11:33pm] broken: it's easy enough to use the controls as they are used now
[11:34pm] ideasman_42: Im trying to remember them all...
[11:34pm] ideasman_42: Copy and paste would definetly help
[11:34pm] broken: copy and paste could be ok, yes
[11:35pm] broken: I'm mainly fearful of having 10 different options that do totally basic stuff and hardly provide any advantage over doing it just the normal way, especially when you take the time to navigate longer and longer menus into consideration
[11:35pm] broken: and then they compete with future, more useful options
[11:36pm] ideasman_42: broken, IMHO its a weired blender/user trait
[11:36pm] Brandano: ideasman_42: are Object properties officially in since 2.43?
[11:36pm] ideasman_42: eg. if we ever remove stuff, people cry
[11:36pm] Brandano: or are they still a planned feature?
[11:36pm] ideasman_42: like the guy that was all annoyed I removed Tube from the add menu
[11:37pm] broken: yeah
[11:37pm] • Brandano proposes the inclusion of a "remove" menu
[11:37pm] broken: i think it's better to be more vigilant about what to include in the first place :)
[11:37pm] ideasman_42: Its not a good habbit to get into of course but not adding some usefull stuff because one day we might have more usefull stuff seems a bit odd
[11:38pm] Brandano: remove>cube: finds the first instance of a cube 1x1x1 and removes it
[11:38pm] Eckie1 joined the chat room.
[11:38pm] Brandano: it might not tbe the one you wanted to remove though :)
[11:38pm] broken: it's called 'planning' :P
[11:39pm] • DavidLinton is away: the emo hunt has begun!
[11:39pm] ao2 joined the chat room.
[11:39pm] ideasman_42: depends. interface refactor keeps getting pushed back, we need to plan for the near term too
[11:39pm] broken: yep
[11:39pm] broken: anyway I'm just not that convinced that they bring significant enough benefits
[11:39pm] broken: (well, apart from copy/paste)
[11:39pm] ideasman_42: why not just add that then?
[11:40pm] broken: could do, yeah :)
[11:41pm] DavidLinton left the chat room. (Read error: 131 (Connection reset by peer))
[11:41pm] broken: ideasman_42: also for some of those options it would be better to think about hte problem and see if it can be solved in more intuitive ways than just adding bazillions more options
[11:42pm] broken: eg. the slider example, I recall in modo, they have what they call 'notched' sliders
[11:42pm] broken: where it slightly snaps to significant values when you're dragging
[11:42pm] ideasman_42: broken, hah, its funny, even talking about why a patch is bad can even help you see the need for a solution to the prob
[11:43pm] broken: that would be a lot better and more natural to just drag along and snap to 50%, than to select it from a menu
[11:43pm] ideasman_42: agree
[11:43pm] broken: also things like rotations, snapping number fields to 90/180/360
[11:43pm] ideasman_42: how can it be set?
[11:43pm] ideasman_42: just use CTRL?
[11:43pm] Sub-D_Surface: broken: that would be neat :)
[11:44pm] broken: well in modo it's just always on by default, and not too intrusive
[11:44pm] broken: but yeah you could use a modifier
[11:44pm] broken: and things like the colour picker swatch
[11:44pm] ideasman_42: RMB Drag
[11:44pm] ideasman_42: we could use that
[11:44pm] broken: for a while I've wanted to add code so you can just drag the swatch itself
[11:44pm] broken: like x axis = hue, y axis = value
[11:44pm] ideasman_42: why not now?
[11:44pm] ideasman_42: confusing?
[11:44pm] broken: so to get black you just drag downwards, or white yo udrag upwards
[11:45pm] Sub-D_Surface: ideasman_42: why don't we use the MMB ?
[11:45pm] broken: no, mmb is for panning
[11:45pm] broken: rmb sounds a bit dicey to me...
[11:45pm] broken: perhaps you could even do it in a smart way, always on, but based on mouse movement speed
[11:46pm] ideasman_42: that would be good
[11:46pm] ideasman_42: I can imagine a lot of people complaining but Id liek it
[11:46pm] broken: like the slower or faster you move hte mouse, the more tendency there is to snap...
[11:46pm] broken: could be a fun experiment
[11:46pm] ideasman_42: Uright
[11:46pm] ideasman_42: yeah ;)
[11:46pm] amorilia left the chat room.
[11:47pm] ideasman_42: buttons would need a reference to a static array of values and slow movement around those values would snap them
[11:47pm] broken: mm..
[11:47pm] broken: unless you could make assumptions
[11:47pm] ddwagnz left the chat room. (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[11:47pm] ideasman_42: if users are deadset on 5.01 they can type it in
[11:47pm] broken: yep
[11:48pm] ideasman_42: or maybe shift disables
[11:48pm] broken: which is pretty much the case now anyway since it's hard to get really precise when dragging the little buttons
[11:49pm] ideasman_42: yep, I recon itd work well
