Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
I've lost the ability to transform locally.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

I've attached the file in question. I just can't get the local transform to work. I've googled around but this seems unique. Never had it before and it doesn't do this with a new blender file. Just posting as a slight matter of urgency as the file in question is a live client job on a tight deadline and I can't transform anything locally all of a sudden. The file attached is the scene I'm working in but I've deleted everything except a cube. Try and rotate it and then switch to local, or anything else, the gizmo stays the same.

Event Timeline

Update: it's very strange. I've opened it in 3 different versions of blender and it doesn't work in any.
If I copy and paste the scene into a new blender file, the transform works again.

Cannot repro here.

Please try with File โ†’ Defaults โ†’ Load Factory Settings to see if you still can reproduce this issue.

Just to clarify, a new Blender scene works fine, it's just this file. If I load defaults but then load my broken scene, the issue persists. But then, just opening a new file does the same thing anyway. The only way I can work around it is to copy and paste my whole scene into a fresh document.

Your file works fine here, needs another look

@Andrew Walsh (andywalshart) hi, from where you're changing the transformation axis? Header (which at the top and middle) or toolbar?
I'm not able to replicate this. Could you share screen recording to demonstrate the issue?

well, I just did a screen record but two things 1. the transform orientation drop down at the top of the 3d viewport in the middle, didn't change when I switched to local... but... the other transform orientation that sits in the top left DID change when switching to local. Not sure why there's two, I thought one was for when in edit mode. And 2. when I added a new cube, the local transform worked in both drop down menus. So I think it's just a one off bug that's very hard to replicate.

AFAIK, one at the middle shows the scene transformation mode. Left transformation property is for individual tools.
Still I didn't understand how to redo this in uploaded file. Screen recording might help.
