(I also tested it on 3.3, where it didn't work either)

Short description of error
When baking using Cycles, the denoiser doesn't work for Ambient Occlusion.

Denoising when baking only works when using the 'Combined' type:

Denoising doesn't seem to work when baking just Ambient Occlusion:

This scene is baked to an image texture using the same amount of samples, denoising enabled.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create some geometry and unwrap it fully (using smart UV project for example).
  2. Create an image texture and select it.
  3. Bake an ambient occlusion texture (1 sample) using Cycles with Denoising enabled.

Event Timeline

Only the Combined pass and shadow catcher passes support denoising for the moment.

So thanks for the report, but the issue reported here is a request for modified/improved behavior and not a bug in current behavior. Closing as this bug tracker is only for bugs and errors.
