Curves not recieving Viewport Colour

Short description of error
BezierCircle's not taking Viewport Display Colours

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create a curve > circle
  2. Under object properties > viewport display > set the colour to anything
  3. No 3D viewport will show that colour on the BezierCircle

Whats frustrating is that this is doable via bone groups if the BezierCircle is set as the Armatures Custom Shape, which makes me think the 3D Viewport is capable of drawing colours on curves.

This is not how you expect to use this color property.

Overlays are not affected by material.

Since the colour option is enabled (and not grey'd out) then I do expect it to change the colour of the selected object.

Maybe it should have a 'mesh colour' and a 'wire colour'?

The "color" property of an object is generic. It can be used in Shader nodes and Geometry Nodes for example.
So it doesn't really seem appropriate to grayout this property because an object has no mesh.
The workbench engine, to match older versions of Blender, has an option to use this property as the object's color.
But overlays were never used that way.
