Please mention exactly which build you got for 2.46 rc 3, and graphicall. Also, you can test if other OpenGL applications work with Compiz on your computer, this could be a driver problem.

This could also be a compiz bug since that is beta ware :)

i used blender-2.46-RC3-linux-glibc236-py25-i386.tar.bz2 from download.blender.org (display problems) and the i386 version (2008-05-03 15:29:50 rev 14668) (no display problems)

you're right about compiz. it's pretty buggy .. err .. beta .. err .. work in progress. ;-)

but the strange thing is, that the graphicall build is running without the problem.

using compiz on ubuntu hardy 8.04 works perfectly here so this is either a bug in an older compiz or a driver bug.

Either way, better to test with a newer release of compiz and file a bug to ubuntu/compiz or your the driver developers and link to this report.

moving to opengl errors, we cant fix this in blender

This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
