connecting two nodes via f
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

in 2.4 it was possible to select two sockets of two different nodes via right mouse button and by pressing f you were able to connect those, is good for far away nodes, doesn't work in 2.5

Event Timeline

Confirmed. I wasn't quite sure how the node sockets used should be selected.

Hi,

I never liked that socket selection, the code was a bit hackish, but also from a UI perspective it had problems - the feedback for selected/unselected was pretty poor, it was hard to know if you had anything selected or not, and there aren't any good extra tools for selecting them either (like deselect all). Overall I thought the added complexity of having two separate sets of selectable things with different tools that work with each was quite ugly.

Anyway, I've committed a modification to this Make Links tool, which means you can just select two nodes and press F, rather than selecting the individual sockets. Let me know if this is good enough for your needs, I can restore the socket selection, but I think it's nicer to do it this way as long as the functionality works well enough.

I'll close this report for now, but please let me know what you think about it.

cheers
