Blender crashes when I attempt to use an open exr or multilayer exr as an input and attach it to a viewer. It happens every time even in an empty blend file.
Also happens when I attach it to the composite node but only after more than one connection hasd been made (i.e. image and alpha, or immage and Z)
Probably useless but here is the windows crash information

Apologies if this has already been reported I couldn't find it in the list.
Description
Event Timeline
Can't reproduce this here on osx / revision 28201.
Can you try this with a different build? If you compile your own, maybe try one from www.graphicall.org? Does this happen in the official alpha 2 release? It sounds to me suspiciously like a problem with the openexr library your build may have been built with...
Closing this report due to insufficient information (eg. lack of
test file, steps to reproduce, ...).
If you can reply to this report and provide this information, we
can re-open it to investigate.
Apologies for the lack of communication I have been away.
I have tried with the official 64-bit alpha 2 release and with 64-bit trunk builds from graphicall and the same happens. Saving as OpenExr is okay (but doesn't allow for Z-layers as far as I can tell) but saving or loading (or doing anything) with MultiLayer images causes this error in the console window with whichever build I use.

Then when I try to composite (I'm trying to use a Z-combine), blender crashes completely.
However after a huge amount of retesting I have realised this only happens (i.e. the full crash) when I turn colour management off in the shading options. I have attached an example blend file ready to test but please let me know if you need anything else.

Not a Win64 user, but i can confirm this on Ubuntu 10.04, SVN 28714
As already stated by Daniel, the crash only happens with Multilayer files and only if color management is turned off while connecting the image-node to the viewer.
Also note that the the image-node itself - without a connection to the viewer - doesn't show any thumbnail preview when loading the file with color management turned off. With color management turned on, everything works.
I can't attach a file to this bug, so i am pasting my backtrace here:

Can you please see if this bug still happens to you as there have been quite many fixes recently around color management and exr files?
No crash here r32698, could you please test with a recent build?
tagged as needing to be tested again.
I still have the same problem with the offical beta release from the website. Haven't tried to do a build of my own for a while.
There will be a new beta soon, so I'll keep this report open until that. Please test as soon as you can when the new beta is available and report back here!
