The folder where I try to save to has a mix of blend files, png's jpgs' svg's pdf's totalling 310MB of data..
See attached .jpg for illustration
Config: WinXP 32 bits 2GB ram, quadro fx540, Intel core duo 1,8Ghz

Hoxolotl: something in the remote folder I would like to save to causes blender to crash when pressing "save as"
ideasman42: Hoxolotl, running out of ram, blender doesnt deal with this situation properly
Hoxolotl: remedy: buy more ram? :)

ideasman42: for windows this is pretty bad, firefox use jemalloc on windows because of this
ideasman42: Hoxolotl, len= how work out how many MB this is and if you have that spare
Hoxolotl: ... it wouldn't bother me so much if I could reset the folder to save to... as it is after opening the file it (logically) tries to save the image in the same folder... and then opening a DEFAULT file tries to save in the crashproney folder too.

Event Timeline

user error: having ludicrous big .png's that don't fit in blender's preview window (14293x10460 pixels in a 4MB .png)
see attached offending file

I don't know why ideasman wanted this reported? Such image sizes just require a contiguous memory allocation in Blender. Nothing we can do really... known issue!
