Version: Blender 2.53 Beta
Platform: OS X 10.5.8
Steps to reproduce:
1) Create an image node in the compositor.
2) Navigate to a folder containing AVIs and select one.
Blender crashes with the following output.
Description
Event Timeline
Seems fine here.
Blender version: 31523
ffmpeg version: 24798
I strongly suspect this is an ffmpeg issue.
Looks like the AVI's are not the culprit. I've narrowed it down to a Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) mov in the same folder.

I can comfirm this crash when browsing to a directory containing Quicktime files.
crash report - http://www.pasteall.org/15192
* For me it does not require clicking on the file, just visiting the directory is enough to cause the crash. But only if "Display files as thumbnails" is selected in the file browser. otherwise, I can browse the files without problem.
os x 10.6.4
I get the same crash on either loading a file into a image input composite node* or loading a quicktime file into the sequencer (drag & drop, filebrowser). And thumbnail generation in filebrowser containing quicktimes also fails and crashes blender. I am having always the same crash report.
- Rev. 31354 didn't seem to have this bug -
In bugreport [#21907] (Animation Render crashes after random amount of frames), I used rev. 31354 and loading quicktime files wasn't a problem then. The same file used for the crash report (which used a quicktime in my case) is crashing now.
Thumbnails generated before the crash occured can be viewed in filebrowser without a crash but loading the files crashes of course.
