Apologies if this has been noted before, but the search function is disabled at the moment. Whenever you run Blender on Windows, a console window pops up in addition to the main Blender one. This is clunky enough on its own, but causes particular annoyance in Windows 7. That's because both are grouped into one taskbar button, meaning you need two clicks to get back to Blender. Is there some way to prevent this appearing? Or could it be integrated into the Blender interface itself? Or perhaps it's just there because the release is still in beta?
Tested using Blender 2.53 x64 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

This is a feature and not a bug :) Blender has had this window since the beginning. I understand it's somewhat unexpected, but right now the console window is still the most important way for the user find out about error print outs.
This will probably consolidated into the integrated console that exists already, but before that happens a lot of output needs to be checked and redirected to the proper place. Also, there need to be a way where log output can be directed to a file - this also still is missing.
Anyway, until then, this window is a feature. Thanks for taking the time to report, though.
