This bug occured multiple times and still continues to happen.
The OS I'm running: System Version:
Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F569)
Kernel Version: Darwin 10.4.0
64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No
Time since boot: 8 minutes
The Computer I have:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
Boot ROM Version: MBP61.0057.B0C
SMC Version (system): 1.58f15
I am running the latest version of blender to date (2.54 beta sep 11)
When I load blender with the default file, and change the main 3D view to the UV/image editor, and press Image > Open, it hangs for a few seconds and crashes with the following report:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000001c3533f8
Crashed Thread: 4
The full crash report is attached.
On my friend's laptop (alluminium macbook) this crash is sparodic, but can be repeated by changing the path URL to desktop, then pressing cancel.
This only happens wiht this version on my computer, not with 2.4
Restarting etc does not effect the bug
Thanks

2.54 has a bug with quicktime thumbnailing, which is where it is crashing according to the crash report, it has been fixed in svn, and is available in newer unofficial builds:
