Jump to next/previous edit point in VSE
Closed, ArchivedPublicPATCH

Description

Project: Blender Extensions
Tracker: Py Scripts Upload
Blender: 2.62
Category: Sequencer
Python: 3.2
Script name: VSE Jump to Cut
Wiki page: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.5/Py/Scripts/Sequencer/Jump_to_cut
Author(s): Carlos Padial
Status: Open

Creates a panel with two operators to control.

The operator jumps to the next/previous edit point in the timeline. Including start and end of each strip.

It allows speed up a lot of editting time and work in the proper way a video editor does.

It only works into the start and end scene defined frames. It stops at start or end frame. May need some fine tunning (loop when going previous...) but it works for me and speed up editting a lot.

I think this must be in the header section of the sequencer, but don't know if its posible for addons...

Event Timeline

ah, You can find the panel in the sequence editor UI (right panel)

New instructions and description:

Jump to cut is a tool collection to help speed up editting videos with blender in the VSE

The first feature are two button that allow to jump to edit points in the timeline. The cursors stops at start and end of each strip. In a NLE way.

Also manages a method to copy and paste your footage in a 3 edit way, according to a proposal find in Blender's VSE blog (here) posted by 3pointedit:

http://blendervse.wordpress.com/2010/10/20/vse-an-editors-layout/
I strongly recommend to read it in order to understand the following instructions. 3pointedit explanations are clear and clever and his english a lot more correct than mine :P

To get the four lower buttons working do as follow:

0. Create an empty scene and name it Master Sequence or something like this.

1. Load each footage in a separate NEW scene. It will allow us to preserve the original clip linked to every instances in the master timeline.

You only need to add movie and or audio strips there and set start and end to fit the clip. And name the scene like the footage file to identify later. And never cut this strips... it's not necesary!! This scenes are not going to be edited till grade process or compose fx (with nodes or plugins), or to sync slates and work with audio...

It's a lot time consuming but i'm finishing to code some operators to automate this.

3. Create another empty space and call it Viewer, or moviola, or similar.

Import in this timeline each piece of footage, but not from the file, instead of that you must add the respective scene. Be aware to move the strip to the firs frame and you are ready to edit.

4. Go to desired IN frame and press marker IN button.

5. Go to desired OUT frame and press marker OUT button.

6. Select the strip (important) and press copy source button. That operator duplicate the strip, fit it's handles to markers and copy it to the clipboard. The strip generated in the upper channel is there only for reference purposes (and a little bug in the code). Usefull if not touched...

7. Go to your Master Sequence scene and move the cursor to desired frame. Press paste button to paste a copy of the strip in the timeline.

Hi Carlos,

sicne 2.5 we don't allow external links to be put in the official scripts, but we prefer people write a wiki page anf put the external link there, aslso better for search engine :)

Can you prepare a wiki page like for example
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.5/Py/Scripts/Sequencer/Jump_to_cut
(not currently existing)

and drop the help manual there?

I'll review this script later and will get back to you, thanks! :)

Assigning to myself for review

ok, i'll read how to create the wiki page asap.

Ah cool. Just in case you need it, wiki guidelines are here:
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Meta:Guides/Writer_Guide

Wiki created and a new version submitted, containing wiki info.
Don't know how to change this in the tracker info!

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.5/Py/Scripts/Sequencer/Jump_to_cut

well done, I've added this script to the main extensions page, see
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.5/Py/Scripts#Sequencer_Scripts
Later I'll review the script itself.

New version uploaded. Now the strip can be anywhere in the timeline.
Some errors about registering solved.

Hi Carlos thanks again for this script. Is the latest version available from this page or your web site? I would like to check it against recent builds.

Hi,
Just a Reminder for people to Join the Mail List.
If you have not already, please visit this page:
http://lists.blender.org/mailman/listinfo/bf-extensions-cvs
& join the list.

Hi,
Due to changes to the api including the merging of bmesh, several addons are outdated.
Please, if you are the author of an addon check your script with blender revision 44256 or newer.
That is builds made After blender 2.62 official release.
I would ask that updates be made to your addon before the Blender 2.63 release.
6-8 weeks away.
This allows time for the api to become more exposed & bmesh to stablize furthur.
If you need help, drop into irc freenode #blenderpython or #blendercoders & feel welcome to ask questions.
At the time of 2.63 release, scripts that are not repaired or in active developement will have their tracker page marked "Closed"
this will not affect your links to the tracker, similar to closing scripts in 2.49b, the page will be still availible & can be re-opened.

Thanks for your understanding & patience during these Exciting Times.
Brendon.

working in 44539

New version, a lot of little fixes.
No more keyframe next and prev (just use up and down arrow keys)
Also no more extract audio. I will start a new script to manage this...

Now the next cut detects the tail of the timeline and remains showing the last frame, not the black of the next.
Info and warnings has been also fixed.

a new fix for errors due to non selected strips...

Hi & thanks for the updates :)
are you interested in developing in contrib svn?
you can reach us on irc freenode #blenderpython
thanks

This add-on solved my issue. Thanks a lot Carlos

Is this still maintained (and candidate to contrib folder)? Else task should be archived…

Hi this task is being archived, it was replaced by sequencer extra actions in contrib by the same author.

Brendon Murphy (meta-androcto) changed the task status from Unknown Status to Unknown Status.Sep 1 2015, 10:34 AM
