Multilayer EXR is flipped when imported to external applications
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

Hi,

When saving multilayer Exr from blender and opening them in external comp apps (eg. after effects) the exr files are upside down.

having to flip every single exr channel manually is rather strenuous.
If this is NOT a bug, maybe it would be possible to add an option in blender image output for multiexr. eg. [x]flip y

reproduce: save any multi exr file and open in external comp app, extract a channel. (there doesnt seem to be a default channel so u have to extract sth in order to see something else than a black image)

cheers,
alex

It's not really a bug in the sense of a bug but just a simple order of changing the code so that Blender can write AND read EXR files normally.

The EXR issues is not just when writing the file, it happens when Blender reads files from other applications too. EXR renders from Aqsis, 3Delight, MentalRay are flipped and reversed when opened in Blender. Non 3D rendering images, such as simple test EXR images from Cinepaint and Photoshop are also flip and reverse when opened in Blender.

This really should be corrected in order for Blender's EXR file to be effortlessly imported into other apps, as well as other application EXR imagery to be imported into Blender.

It also does not matter if the EXR file is just a normal RGBA image or MultiLayer.
