User preferences window does not work

Description

When I try to close this window, it turns to black and Blender stops working.
It's that simple. I use 2.55 in windows vista.

We had this report once or twice before, but it always appeared to be on a system with weak support for opengl. Especially on-board Intel gfx has problems for it, and sometimes ATI. Driver upgrades are always recommended.

This is why we have our bug reporting guidelines, please check all the tests as mentioned there and give us valuable information. Bug fixing is cooperative effort; user provides sufficient information so we can redo issues and solve it.
