Compositor OpenEXR files the same for different render layers when images saved
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

Hi there.

When I save an OpenEXR output with Zbuf data for 2 seperate render layers both saved files contain render layer 1. I have tested these saved files opened in 2.49 in the compositor and they are both the same.
Testing I have done -
They are the correct render layers when saved as a JPG.
Output direct to render layer node displays correct layer and composites OK.
2.49 outputs and saves correct render layers as OpenEXR with Zbuf data.
It actually seems to be dependant on what render layer is selected in the compositor, even if you have not said use nodes – which by default is render layer 1. If you select use nodes compositor then change render layer to layer 2 then uncheck use nodes. When layer 2 is rendered layer 2 is saved but when layer 1 is rendered layer 2 is saved.
I'm using Ubuntu x64
Hope this makes sense. Blend attached

We are only testing and using Blender 2.56 here, release is on blender.org.
I loaded your file, rendered, and saved using F3 both layers to exr succesfully. I set the active layer in the menu in the image window header.

the information in your report is fuzzy though, you have to be far more exact, with the simplest amount of instructions. Here's mine:

- load file, press F12 for render
- in Image window header, set layer 1, F3 save
- In Image window header, set layer 2, F3 save
