Hi,
I would like to report what I believe is a bug in the stable release "blender-2.57b-release-windows32" on Windows 7.
Menus disappear on Windows 7 on account with noneelevated rights by using the recommended settings.
To reproduce:
1. Install blender-2.57b-release-windows32 on a Windows 7 machine with a normal useraccount (noneadministrative rights)
2. Under installation select "Use Application Data directory (recomended)" [image1]
3. Upon completing the setup, leave the checkmark in "Run Blender 2.57b-release" and hit Finish
4. Confirm normal function [image2]
5. Quit Blender and reopen it again
- Critical menus are now gone [image3]
* Resetting to factory defaults (SPACEBAR -> Load factory defaults) does nothing good.
By exiting Blender again, then right-clicking the Blender shortcut and selecting "Run as Administrator" will bring back normal function, but only for the session(s) with elevated rights.
I'm not a programmer, but my logic tells me that the issue has to do with the fact that the application needs administrative rights for installation. I believe that the Blender installer thinks the Application Data directory the user wants to use is the one for the account with administrative rights and not the account the user actually is logged in with. Using the recommended value in step 2 is therefore causing issues on a normal useraccount.
Selecting "Use installation directory" instead of the recommended value [image1], does not cause this issue to happen.
If you need any more information or something is unclear I'm happy to help resolving this issue.
If any follow-up instructions is needed, please keep in mind that I'm new to Blender.
Thanks for a outstanding application nonetheless, and keep it up! :)

I know the installer is not fully fail-safe yet, due to directories it chooses or permissions.
The reason for missing menus is that it cannot find the UI scripts.
If you download the .zip version of Blender instead, things will work fine in any case!
Report assigned to Nathan, he can judge if this is known issue...

This issue has been fixed in our development version, and it will be fixed in the next version 2.58, for now workaround is to use administrator user or use the .zip download instead of the installer.

Thanks for quick replies. Just want to point out that selecting "Use installation directory" instead of the recommended option works just fine as well. Good to hear that the issue has been fixed in the upcoming release.
