Mouse wheel pans instead of zooming.
Closed, ArchivedPublicTO DO

Description

Hello, this has been happening for quite a while (since 2.5 came out at least). I thought it would be quickly noticed but it wasn't so people on IRC instructed me to post it here.

When modeling, every once in a while and apparently out of nowhere the mouse wheel starts panning instead of zooming. I roll it and instead of zooming in and out it pans up and down. I have to close blender and open it again for it to go back to normal. I don't know how to reproduce it but when doing heavy modeling it happens at least once a day (and some times a lot more than that).

I'm on OSX. Specifically a MacBookPro5,3. That is GeForce 9600M GT, Intel Core2Duo 2.8Ghz, 8GB RAM. I'm not sure it's related but I'm using a Magic Mouse (so it's not a wheel mouse wheel, it's a touch mouse wheel). This' happened with every official blender.org file and graphicall builds I've used.

Event Timeline

i had the same on osx with a logitec g5 mouse. maybe the special functions are creating a conflict

We've had more people complain about the magic mouse, it has a peculiar way for how it handles events.
There's no developer active unfortunately who uses such device. I just connect a regular mouse to my Mac and things go fine. Do note that default, OSX doesn't use the middle mouse mapped to "middle mouse" or "mouse button 2". You have to set this yourself in the preferences.

I will put this topic on my attention list and our todo wiki. Developers who want to test & fix this device are welcome.
