Please provide a Windows 2000 build. I use an AMD Athlon Dual Core, 32-bit sys. The alpha version of 2.58 worked but the final release of 2.58 does not run on Windows 2000.

This is not a bug. This is a feature request.
The developers are extremely limited in the breadth and depth of what they can accomplish. If you think that working on build configurations and possibly patching Blender to work on a decade old operating system as opposed to furthering its development and improvement on the artist facing features, perhaps your priorities are not in line with the design direction for Blender.
Further still, Windows 2000 likely doesn't support the vast majority of OpenGL features that have evolved over time. This may very well cripple the software's ability to behave on such a system.
If you are indeed interested in learning how to package Blender, provide patches where needed, and implement them, I'm 100% certain that the developers would be dearly interested in your work and likely integrate it into Blender. If you are unwilling to invest the time and energy needed to do so, perhaps expecting someone else to suffers from poor optics.

And, you submitted this report on the 14th, which was answered.
When you do this, you are wasting valuable developer time.
