OK, I tested with the boolean. Now, if I turn off Real time (eye symbol) each time, my computer can handle the rendering. I leave as a default the
camera image icon to ON. I was able to boolean all sided of the cube this time. I have ordered more memory. I am at 4 gb ram. My max on my mac mini is
8 gb. That is what it will be hopefully loaded on the 11th of Oct.
Will keep a log for you of better or worse out come. I did also load your 3d mouse software just recently.

Current booleans in blender are known to be problematic but we have a branch to work on this:

from you're report I cant see a bug to fix, we try restrict reports to reproducible errors developers can investigate, otherwise its too hard to resolve probles.
Can you upload a blend file showing the bug?

No reply in 5 days. It's difficult to guess what exactly made Rick confused, but we've got some internal limitations of current booleans implementations which hopefully are fixed in carve_booleans branch.
