User Preference Window does not work
Closed, ArchivedPublicKNOWN ISSUE

Description

I am not sure if this is the place to submit this problem. Anyway, I have been trying to look at the User Preferences window. Whenever, I click on the User preferences link in the menu or press control alt u, the user preference window appears. But it is all black. There are no words or letters. Both the user preferences window and the main blender windows freezes. I have to close the program with the task manger. I have had this problem several times. I have even let it sit for half an hour, and it did not unfreeze on it's own.

I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times. the problem keeps repeating. I made sure my virus protection and all programs were closed during installation. The 2.6 User Preference window has never worked correctly despite my efforts.

My operating system in Windows Vista. I installed Python 3.2 before I installed Blender. But I also had Python 2.65 and Python 2.7

I tried to send you a screen capture, but you don't accept JPEGs. I can't send you a Blend file, because the program is frozen when the the problem occurs.

Event Timeline

This sounds like a graphics drivers issue, at least Intel drivers had an issue with two OpenGL windows open at once. Could you try upgrading to the latest version?

A workaround is to open to user preferences in an editor in the main window instead.

Thank you, for reponding. I found that I could open the User Preferences window in the main window and it worked. So I am satisfied.

I don't remember what my video driver is, but every time I check to see if it is up to date, it is.

Thank you for your response - and thanks to the blender team for all of the hard work you do.

Moved from Blender 2.5 Bug Tracker to OpenGL errors

Moving to OpenGL tracker and close.
