Strange Dual-Head related Crash
Closed, ArchivedPublicKNOWN ISSUE

Description

Computer Specs.

900Mhz Amd-Duron, ECS K7S5A MB, 256MB SDRAM, Radeon 9200 with Two Monitors attached.

Blender v. 2.37a, tested with a few latest cvs-builds.

1.) When starting blender with the second monitor enabled (from controlp->display)
it crashes when selecting the default object. I can select the default camera or light, or even select the default cube with the box-select tool (b) but in the latter situation cannot go to edit mode. When selecting with the rmb the program crashes.

2.) If i turn of the second display (again from ctrl-panel->display) and start blender and then turn the 2nd display on again. Everything works normal.
This has been tested for hours on end.

3.) Now if i start blender (with only primary monitor) and remove the cube from the basic setup, save the UI, quit, enable 2nd display, restart blender. Everything seems to work fine. I can add an object and it will jump to edit-mode and is normally editable. No instant crashes atleast (grabbed points around for a few times). After switching to object-mode, deselecting all and reselecting the object with rmb blender crashes again. I can copy and mirror things in object mode and create new objects and also select any object with the box-select-tool, only rmb seems to crash.

At some point i thought i had found a way around this by setting desktop bpp to
16 instead of 32, but cant get that to work anymore.

We've got several reports in blender runs fine on dual screen, and if not then it was always a driver issue. The rightmouse click only calls opengl selection code...

First try to upgrade (downgrade) drivers, and check all opengl settings for it. Sometimes (for games) such settings become less friendly for Blender. Checked the blender.org -> faq too?

Thanks.
I found some cvs-build that was optimized for a a modern machine that contained some (dont know which) version of atiogl.dll that seems to work fine. Should've thought of this earlier. Is it possible to add this to the ati-slowdown-FAQ question?

please confirm that this is still a problem with current CVS builds any unconfirmed bugs by the end of the week will be closed (they can be reoppened though).

you can get a current cvs build from

http://blender.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=18

This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
