"Failed opening .gz file." when saving .blend file
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

-Open attached .blend file;

-Press Control + S to save;

-You'll get a "Failed opening .gz file." error message.

If console is opened, it will output the following:

"blend_file_thumb failed to create thumbnail: unknown"

Tested on Windows XP 32-bit (rev 45362) and Windows 7 x64 (45356)

Note: Can't test on linux at the moment, so I've considered this as being an OS related one

On MAC, OSX Lion 1.0.73 with BMesh buildbot r45704 I see thumbs inside Blender file browser. Still don't see any inside Finder (Mac's explorer window)
I have also managed to get thumb this file .

On PC, Windows 8 BMesh buildbot r45705, I cannot save file at all If I have file compression enabled. If file compression is disabled, I can save but the thumb is still not displayed.

I guess that's related gzip message which I am also getting when I save a file on my Windows machine.

Also, I see thumbs on Windows only if the file was generated or resaved on Mac and then copied back to the PC. There I can see a thumb inside Blender file browser but not via Windows Explorer.

Regarding that I don't think that my report is duplicate because I do not have thumbs visible in both Windows explorer and Mac finder. Even if the file was saved on Mac machine.

I do not know if this will help; but, I get the "blend_file_thumb failed to create thumbnail: unknown" on my PowerPC G4 Quicksilver when I use the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro instead of the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (which died); but, not on the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. When looking at the file in the finder, the image is the blender icon image and not a thumbnail. The thumbnail displays on most other files (not on 3Dx; but, I do not have an 3Dx driver installed).

I should add that I also have an ATI Radeon 9200 in a PCI slot (present with the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro when it was installed).
