I think this was already fixed in 2.63 (at least there were some fixes with opening user preference crash). There was no official release yet, but you can download binaries from http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.63/
I've just tried it. It's the same thing.
See the attachements. I hope it will be useful.
Best regards.
One of the screenshots has aticaldd.dll in it, do you have any ATI/AMD software or drivers installed? The specs are Intel + Nvidia, so I'm not sure where this would come from? If you have e.g. AMD OpenCL installed, could you try uninstalling to see if that avoids the crash?
Hello,
I confirm the specs INTEL + NVIDIA....
My previous video card was a Sapphire HD4850 with ATI driver... but all was cleaned before i installed the nVidia card. (It's what i thought)
So I decided to rename aticaldd.dll in aticaldd.old.dll and in this case, Blender 2.63 don't crash.
Why did this file aticaldd.dll use with nvidia card ??? (In Blender 2.61 all was OK with the same configuration)
I'm trying to clean ATI drivers carefully !!!
Thanks for all.
In 2.62 we added multi GPU rendering, which means Blender now has to query all GPU devices when starting Cycles or configuring them in the user preferences. Before that it would only ask for the first device, which would be the NVidia one, and so the ATI stuff would never come into this.
It crashes in this ATI dll, which was probably incorrectly left there by the uninstaller and failing because it can't find the other parts of the installation. I don't think there's much we can do about this, it's likely not a bug in Blender that we can fix, just system setup that got broken somehow. So, closing report.
