With the current CVS release of blender, selecting an object causes weird
lines to appear all over the screen (and these lines disappear when the mouse
cursor is moved to a different panel) or a crash (when the selected object
is the camera, the crash is almost obligatory).
I have been experiencing this on a Linux notebook with an ATI graphical
card (Chipset: "ATI Radeon IGP320M (U1) 4336" (ChipID = 0x4336) - I know
this is not so high-end... my notebook is not brand new... but that's enough
for low-poly models).
Since I have not been experiencing this with my desktop (Linux as well,
the card is an NVIDIA 6600GT),
I suspect that the graphical card and/or drivers are involved,
I append the the output of 'glxinfo' at the end of the report.
Just tell if more information is needed.
Cheers,

Hi,
First of all check if this happens on older releases, like 2.37a. If this error recently happened, we might be able to do something. But your descriptions smells like a driver issue yes....
BTW; did it ever work OK? And if so, did you upgrade things?

Well, things used to work rather good on that laptop, but at about the same
time I moved to CVS (blender 2.36 I think), I upgraded a couple of things and
ended up with new(er) versions of xorg and friends (GLU, GLUT, Mesa), as well
as gcc (now 4.0).
I compiled a fresh 2.37a and... well, it does show the same problems :(.
This could very well be a driver thing (this ATI card gave me so much trouble !). I ran the thing through 'ltravce' and I append the last lines I get
before the segfault/core dumped (it looks like this is at the openGL
level... no clue why it crashes after quite a few calls to the same function).

I guess that I have pushed the "bug" button to quickly...
Thanks.
RM
PS: the bonus question: why going for the CVS version ?. Well, I have to live
on the edge now and then... and I was curious about the fuild simulation stuff...

The problem has been reported elsewhere, for the same graphical card
(ATI Radeon Mobility M6):

Hi,
We cannot support here own compilations... for that we have developer forums and mailing lists!
Try official builds, all versions are on download.blender.org
We make an official test build for everyone this week too!
I've been having that same type of crash on my macbook. It seems to happen very randomly when i move the cursor. Lines and then crash. I've got a dual core intel mac with a
GMA X3100 graphics card. I'm so sad without blender please help...
This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
