Baking of normals with tangent orientation creates unusable results
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I'm using r50740 (trunk).

Baking of normals with tangent orientation creates results with flipped normals at triangle edges.
Fiddling with distance and bias parameter doesn't solve the problem.

Reproduction: Bake normals.

Side Notes:

Perhaps the wiki entry about baking could be updated?
I'm always running in "feedback-loops" or object not found errors during texture baking.
Also, I cannot define the render target if multiple baking textures are available.

Something in the workflow description between position 3 and 4 is definitely missing.

My only solution is:

- unlinking the texture
- restart blender.

Event Timeline

Nobody is handling this report... tough topic this normal bizz. I'll try to find a dev for it :)

ubuntu12.10 64 bits rev 51542

No problem to bake a decent normal map wih attached .blend file.

The issue with the triangle seams should be fixed now in latest svn.

Regarding feedback loops, basically you should ensure no image textures are assigned when you bake to them.
Regarding no object found, this can happen if you disable render visibility, or not select the right objects.

We could have better documentation here, but don't consider that a bug, many parts of the manual should be improved.

Thanks.
I did not like switching the Application and the OS to get this task done.
