can't mute nodes within group
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

once a collection of nodes have been collapsed to a group, you can open/close the group with tab, and modify elements within the group, but hitting 'm' on nodes inside the group won't mute them. makes it difficult to test and debug node groups.

Event Timeline

have attached an example. tab open the p_matte group, and try and mute any of the internal nodes, it will have no effect. a workaround is to ungroup completely, fine in the short term, but would be nice to see fixed if anyone is poking around the comp source. :)

This was already fixed in svn rev50887. The only thing is that i'm not sure whether compositor result should update while you're changing node setup inside a node group or it's supposed to only update on exit from node group editing.

Jeroen, could you please check this?

Sergey is correct.

In the latest SVN the muting is fixed also in RC2.
add 1: Editing node groups is a bit different. Now you can attach a viewnode inside the node group and it will display the result on the backdrop.
add 2: off topic: have you looked in the next video (scene relightning) might be interesting for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H07X84ohArs

Jeroen Bakker (jbakker) changed the task status from Unknown Status to Resolved.Sep 26 2012, 10:25 AM

wow, fast response, thanks guys!

and yes, you're right; not only does it work, but it works without requiring a viewer inside the group. i definitely wasn't getting this behaviour before, the only difference here is that I loaded the repro I sent you; when I tested earlier it was on my initial test that I'd created, and hadn't saved/closed/loaded. Wonder if that could be related?

And thanks for the video link, very interesting! Would be great to have more of the built-in cycles primvars exposed, there's always so many uses for them. I fear that relighting in comp is NOT one of those uses; its fine for simple cases, but always seems to introduce artefacts on production scenes. p_mattes on the other hand.. always amazing. :)

thanks again!
