Hello,
Window XP 32 bits
Blend (textures are packed) :
http://www.pasteall.org/blend/17617
Most of the object and setup has been made with blender-2.64-r52250-win32 from the buildbot from a few days ago.
Today i cleaned up the blend from now unecessary packed files and references then saved it, this time it was done in stable release 2.64a .
It is a torus with a material (for Blender Internal, not Cycles) that has a texture (packed) used for the main diffuse and a texture (packed too) used for bump map , in the Texture panel, the size of those textures has been changed to fit what i needed for the render.
In the center of the torus there is a single vertice (resulting of a plane being merged in its center) that has a material set to "Halo" , and near to it a simple lamp.
I downloaded yesterday blender-2.64-r52393-win32 from the buildbot, loaded that blend , pressed the Render button and crashed before the render actually start.
A bit puzzled, i loaded it in blender-2.64-r52250-win32 , pressed the Render button and crashed the same.
I loaded it in the stable 2.64a , pressed Render and it rendered without any problem
I tested with stable 2.63a and no problem too.

I think i found what is causing the crash in recent builds with that object : the halo material.
As i mentionned, very close to the lamp in the scene, there's an object, that is a single vertice that has a material set to Halo.
Delete that object and BI will render the scene without a problem with recent builds.
I decided to give a try to something else.
Click on File -> Load Factory Setting.
The default cube in factory setting has a default material in BI.
Change that material to Halo.
Click on render and it will crash the same as the blend i uploaded in any recent build i tried.
Can confirm the issue in r52251 but not in current trunk. There were couple of fixes in related areas, so think the issue is solved now.
Reporting that indeed it seems to work in today's builds.
I just downloaded blender-2.64-r52485-win32 from the buildbot and tested with the file and other using halo materials and rendering them works good again.
Thank you.
