Linked scenes doesn't work in sequencer
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

Blender 2.65 RC1 Every linked scene (from another blend file) can be instanced in the sequencer but if you try to preview it with the vse-2d-cursor, the cpu go to 100% and blender freeze.

Event Timeline

Please always attach sample file which demonstrates the issue. Also always mention operation system you're using.

So far could not reproduce the issue here. The only guess here is that you're using rendered preview which could take quite a while to render. Makr sure you've got OpenGL Preview enabled in N-panel of sequencer preview space. You could also try switching from Solid to Wireframe/Bounding Box draw methed there and check if t works.

Emanuel, any update here? We really need sample .blend file to troubleshoot this issue.

There was 5 day without answer here, will close the report due to lack of information needed for troubleshoot. Will reopen as soon as requested information is provided.

Hi Sergey, sorry for my delay in response, I have prepared an example to demonstrate the issue.

I attach 3 files: A) group_to_be_linked_monkey.blend , B) animation_scene.blend and C) sequencer.blend.

ASSUMING THAT: A is instanced in B and used as part of a particle system (a field full of monkey heads :) ). The scene (named scene_more_complex) is instanced in C and used as a strip in the sequencer.

THE ISSUE: if you open C with blender 264a you will be able to scrubble the cursor along the timeline and visualize the scene from B (named scene_more_complex).
if you open C with blender 265a the program will crash when you go with the cursor over the "scene_more_complex" strip.

I tried on ubuntu linux 12.10 64 bit AND windows 7 64 bit on a i7-3820 64gbRAM GTX560 (2GB) +GTX660 (3GB)
I tried also on ubuntu linux 12.04 64 bit AND windows 7 64 bit on a i7-2670 64 bit 16gbRAM GTX560M (3GB)

Hi Sergey, I can't upload the files so I use pasteall. Here the link:

A) http://www.pasteall.org/blend/18645
B) http://www.pasteall.org/blend/18644
C) http://www.pasteall.org/blend/18646

In this case there should be no difference for sequencer whether scene is linked or not. Also, my guess is that 2.65 crashes for you is because it's using final render by default and think if you'll enable OpenGL preview in sequencer there'll be no crash for you.

I do have other report related on crash when using rendered preview in sequencer which i couldn't redo yet http://projects.blender.org/tracker/?func=detail&aid=33735&group_id=9&atid=498

Hi, you agree ! Sorry for wasting your time :( I will try to be more usefull next time ! All the best and thank you for your very good work. Emanuel
