In recent builds the boolean modifier has been causing an instant crash on my machine.
1. Duplicate the default cube.
2. Apply a boolean modifier to either of the two cubes.
3. In the boolean modifier settings select the other cube as the boolean object. (Upon selecting the other cube, blender immediately crashes)
Note the last official release works fine for me.

Don't have crash here. Could see you're using modified blender, which could be a culprit.
Leaving to OSX team :)

I couldn't redo the issue with the r53255M buildbot builds, both the OS X 10.5 and 10.6 versions:

These versions work fine, must be some local build issue, thanks for checking this out though. Will do more vetting next time.

One more note! Building with make instead of scons solved this issue... May want to look into that.

The buildbot build is made with scons. Probably it's a specific Xcode version or scons configuration that causes this.
