--- Operating System, Graphics card ---
osx 10.8.2
macbook pro 6.2
gt 330m
--- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---
r53880 (and various before)
official 2.65a works
--- Short description of error ---
Own Startup.blend shows UI glitches right and on top - Grey area around (see BUG_UI1.png)
if revert to factory settings, things start to get really unusable - Mouse is off by about 200 Pixels upwards/right (see BUG_UI2 - where mouse cursor is is where i clicked - see 3d Cursor location!)
if i then change to fullscreen - total glitches (BUG_UI3)
if noted something similar a couple of times before (just before 2.65?), but it seemed like it was solved, but now it's back again...

the error does not happen if i delete my config!
my config from ~/Library/Application Support/Blender/2.65
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3uw4dfansdmgd5v/config.zip
Your configs run fine here (OSX 10.7, iMac) and on my retina pbook (10.8).
Where did you get these builds from?
own build, same as
http://graphicall.org/856
happens with building with clang and gcc (shipped apple version)
Compare it with the version from builder.blender.org ?
That's made by same person who does releases.
OK... then we have to figure out what's in your system that makes Blender draw bad.
Be assured Blender runs nearly everywhere fine! We have a lot of Mac users.
It looks as if the system thinks it's a retina screen, but it isn't? Or did you tell your computer to boot in some kind of fake retina mode?
You can disable HiDPI (retina) support in blender in two ways
- right mouse on .app - Info - enable low resolution (button only for retina macs)
- commandline: open terminal, cd to the blender.app directory, type
./blender.app/Contents/MacOS/blender --no-native-pixels
Or anything else you can think of. Try it on another mac for example... we need you to find the error!
BTW: examining your screenshot - it shows graphics card glitches, dashed lines are not working for example.
(check 3d cursor).
I also googled your macbook type, and it seems to have more problems
https://github.com/codykrieger/gfxCardStatus/issues/77
i havent done anything retina related...
start it with ./blender.app/Contents/MacOS/blender --no-native-pixels works
Could you explain this 3d Cursor Glitch to me? Comparing Screenshots from me and from web show exactly the same 3d Cursor...
this gfx 2.2.1 glitch does not seem to happen on my macbook
Since i start blender through terminal anyway i can kind of solve it with the --no_native-pixels...
But i still think there is a Bug ;-) How does Blender determine if it is a retina?
What else could i do to narrow this one down? Thanks

To the right of the girl, just above the curve, is a red-white dashled line for the 3d cursor.
When we start-up blender, we use the official Apple recommended check for a retina display. Somehow your system allows some kindof not-working retina mode :)
I do see we could add another check though, need to examine this later.
do you mean the circle here(image)? i can't see a difference between them.

this might be an issue specifically to my setup... you can decide to close it or leave it open.
No your display issue is a bug, we already work on it. But i have other stuff and social life banging on door. might be monday!
I used Quartz debug to emulate HiDPI mode on the iMac. That way I could redo your error. Fix is in svn now.
However! This error can only happen if your startup file forces a larger screen than you have actually.
Simply start Blender, and save the startup over should have helped.
Let me know if it's working now, svn r54005 or newer.
r54008
start without --no_native-pixels and startup.blend saved in fullscreen still gives this grey area right and top, plus the Infobar on top is gone
http://www.pasteall.org/pic/44066
exit/enter fullscreen solves this. Issue with Load factory Settings messed up is solved though.
i've noticed: Exit/Enter Fullscreen does change the UI... Try Enter/Exit about 20-30 times and then load startup again. My Panel on the right gets about 30 px smaller. Bottom Panel is not affected.
I have saved the startup.blend several times new, behavior remains the same. Removing my startup and userpref doesn't solve it either.
Note: this grey area is hard to see with default Theme! Set to maya for example.
That is just because UI scaling has rounding errors. The grey area is the top info window, just make it show the header.
The scaling issue is a todo item, it's just not common to resize windows all the time, so it had no high priority.
i can make it show the header, save startup and it's gone the next time i start blender... that's why i noted it.
scaling issue: thanks for info
about gray areas: i didn't mean header info, but the 1-2 pixel grey on top and right. see
http://www.pasteall.org/pic/43849
in 3dViewport, with Region Overlap, N- and T-Menu animation is messed up. While it blends in and out (on n-/t-key press) it shows viewport behind somehow transformed. should i open a new bug report?
Just share your startup blend?
You also need to figure out why your mac thinks it has hiDPI support... did you set this with Quartz debug?
see my first comment, startup file is there.
happens with standard factory settings too...
about this hiDPI, i did't set anything in this direction...
Ah, I do too many bug reports, forgot I already tested the startup file.
I begin to suspect you have issues with hardware or drivers here though. Glitches with overlap UI animation happen when triple buffer is failing.
Just disable this in user preferences (set to Overlap). That also disables overlap ui drawing though. I also suggest to not use Fullscreen mode, things might work more smooth then.
Usually Macbook opengl is totally rock solid stable and predictable. The online dev team tests it on many different macs, and nobody has such glitches.
But, Tripple buffer worked flawless until recent changes... I like this Mode so much, don't take it away from me ;-)
i will do some more test with drivers and so on, since this issues only appears in/on Blender.
