Quicktime Error
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

--- Operating System, Graphics card ---
iMac, OSX 10.8.2, i5 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
QuickTime 10.2 and 7.6.6

--- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---
2.65 and 2.65a 64bit
Error: Unable to create quicktime movie, need Quicktime rev 7.2.1 or later

--- Short description of error ---
Error happens every time I choose QuickTime from the file format menu of the Output section in the Render settings. I have both QuickTime 10.x and 7.x on the computer. I have a second iMac with i5 processor and it works fine with all the same software versions, though it does have a different graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5670)

I tried the 32bit version of 2.65a and it works fine.

--- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---

Animate a default scene using QuickTime as file format.

Event Timeline

10.7 iMac, standard installs, runs quicktime .mov output in 2.65a 64 bits release OK here.

Quicktime is 7.7.1, located in /System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework
(checked with System Information - Software - Frameworks)

Located Quicktime version as instructed and confirm it is 7.7.1. Still getting errors as before. Could it be the difference between OSX 10.7 and 10.8?

Also in 2.65a on 10.8 macbook pro quicktime sets OK. This was confirmed to work for 2 other people with 10.8.

There used to be a difference between how we build 32 bits and 64 bits (in 2.65a, not in trunk). The 64 bits version uses QTKit (cocoa quicktime) instead.
I'm not an expert on this though, Jens knows better.

Meanwhile: just get our 2.66 test build? Linked from frontpage www.blender.org

Any updates here? Jason, can you please re-test with the 2.66 RC as Ton asked?

I fixed a quicktime issue recently which might have been related, but as I can't redo this bug I don't know. Closing report for lack of information, if you can test and confirm it in a recent version from http://builder.blender.org/ then I can reopen, but currently there's no information for us to go on here.
