When we make a link, materials of the same name are not linked to the scene.

Description

1 -) I have a kitchen project with several items imported, all working perfectly.

2 -) I link a group of objects from another file Blender, this time a glass brick.

3 -) Automatically my stove, cups and glasses change, Blender assume the new imported material over the others, that ugly glass along with glass brick.

Discovery: Just discovered this because the glass brick has a dark green material.

Reason: All files imported possessed a material called glass but each with similar settings, except for the last one to be importing the glass brick.

Resolution: Create the blender a way to "rename" the hyperlinked materials as "glass-stove" "glass-cup", "glass-glass brick"

Resolution now I have to go in the blender files and rename each one, like stove glass, glass cup and so on.

--- Operating System, Graphics card ---
Ubuntu and Windows, GTx 550Ti

--- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---
2.65.9 r54282

--- Short description of error ---
When you link an object or group from another file blender he uses the material of this object on the other components of the scene with material of the same name.

--- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---
Create a cube it and add a material called blue test, choose the color blue, and save it.
In another blender file create a cube blue with red color and link the cube of the first file, ready, Blender will know that there are two materials named test blue and will pick one of them. When should automatically identify a material that is being linked and the search for information in the source file and if there were others with the same name blender need to rename the importad material.

Event Timeline

I can't redo this problem using the steps you gave. If I link the object, I end up with two materials that have the same name. This is allowed in Blender as long as the materials come from different .blend files. If I append the object, the material gets renamed with a .001 postfix so that there is no conflict.

Some things to try:
* Use the 2.66 RC build: http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.66/
* Load Factory Settings to make sure no addons or other settings are influencing this
* Attach .blend files to this report so we can recreate the same setup

I make a video about my problem but is it is in portuguese =/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOCOtG0brQ0
I solve it rename the material glass on the blender file glass brick.
I use many blenders, like on Ubuntu Notebook with a Blender from Graphicall.org them a Blender on Windows 7 Descktop and them a Blender on my descktop Ubuntu.
Is possible that error occurred between the saves of the different distros.
That is not special case, comes with me more than one time.

Thanks, I can see the issue in the video but mainly what we need is a way to reproduce the problem here.

You describe a simple scenario with two cubes, but apparently somehow this bug happens on your computer but not on mine. So we need to figure out what exactly it is that makes it happen. That's why I ask to try with factory settings and to attach two .blend that are already set up and where we just need to link the object.
