subsurf modifier – subdivisions: different values for 'view' and 'render' prevent mesh shapes caused by deform cage from beeing rendered.
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

Windows 7 64bit with graphic on board

Blender 2.66a; initially notices in this version

Deform cage with shape keys on it onto a mesh. If you set a subdivision surface modifier for the mesh you must have to put the controllers for the number of subdivisions (for view and for render) to the same value otherwise the shapes of the mesh caused by the deform cage are not rendered.

In this special case the value for the 3d view was set to 3 and the value for render was set to 2. Shapes were not rendered. Putting the value for render to 3 made the shapes appear in render.

Event Timeline

Confirmed, later Frames (with deformation) are not rendered correct with different Subsurf Levels.

This a know limitation of the mesh deform modifier, mesh deform binds to a specific mesh resolution, if you change the number of vertices it's no longer valid. It's confusing but not considered a bug.
