In both Blender 2.37a and 2.39 alpha2, Blender crashes when either the render button or F12 is pressed. The render window opens, a few of the details at the top appear and the cursor changes to the frame number, but the computer immediately hangs.
My system spec is shown at

Since posting the spec there, I have updated the SiS Display adaptor driver to 10/05/2005, 6.14.10.3700, but the problem persists.
Other users at Elysiun have mentioned problems with SiS graphics, so this is why I've pursued this course.

Yes, but unfortunately the issue is with the SiS drivers... this brand is renown for very bad opengl support, and I heard they want to drop opengl completely. I only had bad reports from SiS owners here in the past... you're not alone. :)
I can only advise you to use the (f10 renderbuttons, first panel) "DispView" option now, its a bit clumsy, but at least you then can render images. As soon as a developer in our team pops up with such a 3d card, I will poke him to test if there's a bypass...
This is a generic request to test your bug report and see if it is still an issue in 2.5alpha2 if so please let me know by making a comment in this report ie 'also in 2.5alpha2' and I will add it to the 2.5 bug list.
Alas, my screen broke about a year ago so I haven't been able to use that laptop, but I seem to remember I could render anyway at that point, so something must have changed. I think this defect is rightfully closed.
