Applying subsurf to mesh or setting subdivisions to zero crashes Blender

--- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---
1/ click apply on subsurf modifier or set subdivisions to zero

I could not find a workaround (I tried duplicating the mesh, removing shapekeys, cleaning up mesh, etc.)
So for the moment this scene is frozen... any idea ?

The problems seems to be linked with UV maps ?

Confirmed, setting Subsurf to 0 or Applying it crashes immediately.
