I confirm that there is a problem in the .blend but I cannot reproduce from scratch.
In attached .blend, there is no update of deformation in Textured display but it works in Solid Display.
Domain's dimensions are weird. These values are equal to 0.
Youre right, the domain is kind of strange, add a new one.
I can reproduce it easily, just create a fire simulation.
1. add a cube, give it a smoke-modfiier -> set domain.
2. add a cylinder, give it a smoke-modifier -> set fire or smoke.
3. add a curve
4. parent cylinder to curve via curve deform.
Blender Render:
5. play timeline in textured and solid
Cycles Render:
5. play timeline in material and solid
Got this "bug" in all my simulations. Do you say its working for you if you create it from scratch?
4.1 Smoke modifier have to be placed under Curve modifier (or Armature mod) in the stack
OK ! I confirmed the bug with Cycles UI for Material viewport shading mode.
But I have no problem with Texture viewport shading mode.
For the moment, it is not a big problem because cycles is not yet able to render smoke.
