I am using Blender GIT Rev 2013-12-24-18-56-07-3ffba79 on a Fedora 19 Linux Box 64Bit
with and Intal 3000 HD GFX card.

All mesh objects types when added to the 3D Viewport have default rotation values
of 0,0,0.

I noticed that suzanne does not she has a default rotation value of 90,0,0. This
seems at odds with the rest of the objects.

Maybe useful to have suzanne with default rotation of 0,0,0. But still have her standing up.

PS: I previously posted this bug before but I confused the issue by supplying a blend file
which confused the issue with dupli-verts. That post and this one are only about suzanne
default rotation values.

Attached my system-info and a blend file demoing issue.

This annoys me as well.
Attached a simple patch that rotates the mesh during creation, seems simpler than changing the monkey data.
Don't know if I can commit that, so better have someone look at it.

this is off topic, but while we're on the subject, shouldn't the monkey be made a manifold mesh ? I don't know how many tutorials and demo's I've seen that add a disclaimer something like "this doesn't work to well because suzanne isn't a closed mesh".

not a big deal but, it seems that the if purpose of the monkey is for test type uses, many test (simulations, modifiers) work best with a manifold mesh; with the exception of the subsurface modifier. but this could be okay with a holding edge or crease.

anybody agree?
