Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) claimed this task.

You need the proprietary NVidia drivers for CUDA to work, if you are running Mesa with nouveau or software OpenGL it will not work. Check your distribution documention for how to install it, usually there are packages for it.

If that still doesn't work you can attach the output of help > system info and I can reopen this report, but this seems like a case of missing the right graphics driver.

I do have the nvidia driver installed. Anyway here is the system info attached. Thank you for your time.

That's strange, do you have a file named libcuda.so on your system, and if so where is it? It should be installed with the NVidia driver, somewhere in /usr or /lib I think, if it's not then maybe CUDA support is in a separate package in your distribution?

If it is there then perhaps Blender can't find it. I'm not sure how Mint handles this kind of thing, normally all this is handled by the package installation. I think the folder with that library should be in /etc/ld.so.conf and ldconfig should have been run to update the linker cache so Blender can find it.

Resolved it, apparently the cuda runtime library for this version is "Sold Separately". Just installed it and everything is fine. Thanks again for your help. Consider this matter closed.
