Video editor: effect strip between two strips does not work if it is on same channel...

Short description of error
When adding a effect strip between two strips in VSE, the strip is by default placed between the two strips on the same channel. But this does not work in the preview and neither in the render. It works only if the effect strip is placed on an other channel.

Not sure, if this is a bug or if I miss something obvious...

Thank you very much,

Ralph

Strips need to overlap for the effect to have any meaning. closing.

Thanks for the fast response Barton!

sorry to insist, but this always used to work in older versions (like 2.64) and it makes working with strips (especially still images) much more easy than having to overlap them first (or moving the effect strip to an other channel).

I understand that the VSE is not a priority for blender, but it's a great tool that I use a lot and it would be great to keep features that work just fine in newer versions.

Thanks

@Ralph Kaeppeli (anybid), Ah, I wasn't aware this behavior changed. please include this info in bug reports.

I tested with 2.64 and can't notice any difference.

Please list exact steps when reporting bug (which effect strip for example).

Thanks Bart,

here is a simple blend file with two strips:

In older versions (also 2.67) the cross strip works just fine, but in 2.70 the cross strip has to be on an other channel to work.

This happens on Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

I don't see a problem (Win7/64). After using my own images, cross fade works well in preview and render.

Yes, it works OK in current trunk (I think to remember we did fix that issue for 2.70a?). Closing for now, please always check with latest builds from our buildbot, esp. when latest official release is more than a few weeks old. :)

It doesn't work in 2.70a, but in 06a05e4 from the link above.

Thanks everybody!
