Short description of error
Caching (playback unbaked) or baking a smokesim crashes randomly (not always the same frame).
Error:
libgomp: Thread creation failed: Resource temporarily unavailable

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Try to playback (alt+a) or bake the smokesim in attached blendfile.

*WORKAROUND*
export OMP_NUM_THREADS=1 this lets me cache/bake the entire simulation by using only one core

Looking a bit for this error message over the net, it boils down to: you need more memory.

In other words, OpenMP runs out of resource, you can either disable it (your workaround), or add more mem to your system. In any case, this is not a Blender bug, and we can't really do anything about it… Thanks for the report anyway.
