Short description of error
The big commit that brought us the vastly enhanced paint system broke the ability to paint on multi-material meshes, doing so will now cause a crash 100 percent of the time.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open the attached .blend file (should already be in paint mode and everything) and click. Instead of seeing a nice circle of color, Blender will crash.
