MetaStrip loses video clip
Closed, ArchivedPublic

Description

When there is a single video strip and I rename the original video clip, blender recognizes it and plays it normally (even though it hasn't changed its name inside blender nor have it find its path again).
But when I add that clip with an audio strip (with ctrl+g) then the new MetaStrip cannot identify the video or the audio.

This report is rather fuzzy… what do you mean by 'rename the original video clip', you mean you rename the file itself? In this case, the fact that Blender can still play it is justs mere coincidence, this is not intended to work at all unless you change strip's path in Blender accordingly…

That's exactly what's happened. And it's also weird for me, because if Blender can recognize that the file's (original video clip) name has change, then I want to know how it does it. No other program does that.
But, when I group the video strip with another video strip or an audio strip, then it doesn't recognize it (before I change the strip's path).
Even if the first part is a coincidence, then why not make it work for sure?

This was never meant to work, probably some file handle was kept that survived to the renaming, but you should not count on that, this is not intended (and not really doable either, not in a reliable way at least, afaik). Thanks for the report anyway.
