Description

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
MSI GTX660Ti
Latest drivers (Checked Nvidia site before sending this)

2.71 - Cannot see splash screen wont load.

I have tried the 64 bit installer version and the 32bit Zip version of the latest software, and when i click Blender.exe i get a dos window with a flashing cursor, it just sits there doing nothing, no errors etc, i have read about white screens etc, but i get nothing like that.

Exact steps...

Downloaded the DE version of the 64 bit software installer, opened from Download folder and installed to default location, it installed fine.
Clicked on the desktop shortcut, got DOS box aaaaaaaaand........ thats all folks, nothing else happened.

I have "repaired" my Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 install, and no joy,

Many thanks!

Please try:

  • Try download opengl32.dll from ftp://ftp.blender.org/sergey/softwaregl/ and put it next to blender.exe. This will switch Blender to use fully software opengl eliminating possible interference with bugs in there.
  • Make sure PYTHONPATH / PYTHONHOME etc etc are not set as environments and pointing to a python 2.7 install

Questions:

  • what the "the DE" version ?
  • can you launch blender from a DOS box as you call it ?

The following are NOT considered a bug:

  • Not having proper OpenGL drivers
  • Trying to run blender with python 2.7 libraries. ( This will not work and is not intended to work ever )
  • Not having a supported versions of windows. ( For windows 7 please update to service pack 1, for Vista update update update.. but it should work after you fully updated )

Hi JuicyFruit

I always get Notorious BIG in my head when I see that name...

Ok downloaded the OpenGL and that worked perfect, is the program not going to work as well as if it used Hardware OpenGL? Or will there be no difference?
Not sure what PYTHONPATH or PYTHONHOME are as I installed Blender from your website and I'm a total newbie.

Answers:
The DE version just refers to the mirror that I downloaded the installer from on your Downloads page, I'm assumed DE meant Germany, so it would be the closest mirror to me to download from as I'm in the UK.
I didn't try to launch the program from the DOS box/CMD window before I downloaded the .dll file, so was unable to test this.

I will start to use and learn the program now, and many thanks for your quick response!!

Thanks
James

This tells us your hardware opengl does not work. you really want it to work though.

But this is not a blender bug
